The problem/confusion comes from your statement that I believe is not accurate: (As you mentioned, Microsoft programs work with shared cloud documents, but only with OneDrive.) Linking to cloud storage is a good feature request and you should consider submitting it. The amount of time this entails depends on the internet speed and the file size.
